Room Three have been learning about ANZAC Day.
Today we used our 5 senses to help us imagine what it would be like being a soldier in the war. We pretended we were a soldier called Alex and we wrote letters home from the war. We hope you enjoy reading them.
Dear Mum, I am now at war. I have climbed up a very tall mountain, avoided all the trenches and I am now fighting. I can hear guns shooting, bombs exploding and tanks firing. I've been touching heavy metal guns. So far I've tasted death and dirt. Dear Mum,I am in Turkey now. Guns are being fired all around. I am needing to duck to avoid getting hit and apologize for the shaky writing. Dear Mum,The wind is whistling. I can hear feet pounding and hearts thumping. I can smell gun powder being loaded into the trucks. All the food we have is five boxes of Anzac biscuits. I saw six soldiers heading for us. In this trench it's cold. I can only feel mud at the moment. We don't think we're safe. Dear Mum,I am now at Gallipoli. It feels like I am half deaf from all the helicopters exploding in mid air. The weapons are so heavy they are really hard to hold. The Anzac biscuits you sent me are very nice. They give me lots of energy to fight. There are soldiers and poppies everywhere and I'm so sweaty. Dear Mum,I am now at war. I'm off the boat and up a hill. I hope I come back home. I'm doing very well and remembering to duck from the buets. I have been trying to get people with my weapons. It's so smelly over here and very muddy and yuck but not as much as I expected. Wow, yum! I can taste Anzac biscuits. Ah!!! Fire! i hate fire, I'm scared of that and I can smell the gun powder. I love to look at the poppies. Dear Mum,I am now at war fighting the soldiers in Gallopoli. I have been shot in the leg but I survived it. I have been smelling poo and wee, mud and sweat. It is a horrible war. I can hear the voices of the dying. The other army team have been losing a lot of men, so are we. Dear Mum,I am now at war. I am shooting out of the trench and it is so noisy. I can't even concentrate on writing to you because of all the loud bombs and guns. I ma shooting with the gun, the gun is as cold as snow but I am trying my best. I am with my mates shooting. Oh no, I just fell down and I have the taste of dust and mud, disgusting. My friends help me up and then we go back and do what we are meant to be doing. All I see are soldiers running around like crazy and some with painted faces that are light green and dark green and some of them are camouflage.
