WOW....Rebekah, Arpita, Yen, Paige Hannah, William, Ayush, Chelsey and Kiri wrote letters to Eric Murray and he wrote back to them! Eric, you are a great Olympian and we are soooo proud of you.

Parent Sharing Assembly

Room 3 had a great time sharing their character writing and tangram puzzles with family and friends at our parents assembly.

I loved the day that my Gran and Grandad came to school for the parents assembly. My grandad's name is Bob and my gran's name is Nora. They thought I was a very, very good artist.

Room 3 Listening Post

On Tuesday the Mice reading group listened to their stories on the listening post. We listened to Wheke and Undersea Garden. WE are learning to read not too fast and not too slow. We are also learning to sound like a character when we see speech marks. The Mice really like going on the listening post.

Kapahaka

I liked the Kakahaka festival. It was very cool because the boys did the haka. I was a little bit shy but I kept on doing my poi. I liked my mum watching me. I was really good.

Book Character Dress Up Day and The Great Newlands School Book Swap

Wow, what a lot of costumes! They all look fantastic. My favourite character was Kiarra's witch. The middle syndicates Best Costume prize was Chelsey. She was a smurf. Lots of people came to our book swap. I chose a Geronimo Stilton book. I can't wait to read it in the weekend. Room 12 came to our class for a buddy swap. We listened to a story and then made a bookmark with our buddy. I enjoyed today A LOT.

Daffodil Day at Newlands School

Yaaa it's Daffodil Day. I came to school wearing yellow. We made daffodils in the hall. It was very fun.
by Zaina

Daffodil Day was a fun day. We raised $474.50 and the money is going to the Cancer Society to be used to help the people that have cancer. It was also fun making daffodils in the hall. For our maths we got to count up all the money from the classes.
by Helleena

Today I walked into school and no one was in their uniform. They were in their bright yellow clothes. Everybody had something yellow to wear and everybody brought gold coins to support people with cancer. We made lots of daffodils and we had so much fun making them.

The first challenge was to go around a stand and tap it 3 times and come back and roll it to the next person, then roll it back and put it on the stand. We ran off. The first team was next to us. Then the challenge got harder and HARDER!!!!!! ext we had to go behind the stand and catch the ball and throw it back. Next we had to throw it to the person and go back to the line. WE got prize packs....yay!!!!!

The Book Fair is soooo cool. I've got heaps of stuff to wish for on my wish list.

by Lochlainn

Today we went to the Book Fair. There were heaps of books there. My favourite book was The Party Pool.
by Zaina

Today was an interesting day because Clifford came and told us about a book fair in our library. Then we got to go and browse at some of the books. I think the one that I want most is My Year Passbook.

Why did Clifford come out of the middle of no where? He came from the book fair to tell us all about it. I hope I get go after school to the book fair.

Week 1 News

Our letter of the week was C. Look at all the cool things we brought to school starting with C.
We had some crazy conversations about our C items.

Thursday, July 19, 2012

We read a poem called "Looking up, looking down" by Elizabeth Taillie. We went outside and lay on our backs looking up and looking down. We then wrote our own poems.

Looking up Looking Down

I lie on my back and look at the sky, wow it's so high.
I look around and see amazing things!
I list some things in my head, I feel like I'm in bed.
And these are the things I saw in the sky.
I saw amazing New Zealand shapes and sprinting dogs.
I saw horse heads and dancing shoes.
Wow, it looks so cool.

by Tania and Paige

Looking up Looking Down

I lie on my back very still,
Watching, waiting, until...I see
Rollicking cloud rivers racing by
Frothing and foaming through the sky.
Fairy skyscrapers (they're called trees)
Their tops swaying in the breeze.
A monster in hysterics, laughing loud
(did you know he's just a cloud?)
But now I must go back inside,
I've had such a fun time.

by Kiri

Looking up Looking Down

I lie on my back and look at the sky,
watching fluffy white clouds go racing by.
I also see the pale green leaves falling from the sky.
I see the bids singing as they go and hunt for food and water.
I look up at the sky and everything makes me so small.

by Rebekah

When I look at the Sky

When I look at the sky I feel so small
but when I face the front I look at my toes and it feels like my toes seem far away.
But then I look at the sky again and it feels like I can touch the clouds
But they are running away from me.
Suddenly I see a fish with a mustache and sticking its lips out.
But in the end I feel so big when I stand up.

by Helleena

Beautiful Sky

Look up at the clouds
You will see them going round and round.
All puffy and white, it looks just quite right.
Wires hanging from wood, it looks quite good.
If you think it's paradise come see the surprise!
Come outside, get on your back and of course no it's not fake,
look at the sun sparkling out.
Should we go inside or stay out?

by Hannah

Look up Look down

I lie on my back and look up at the sky
and see a cloud that looks like a crab.
Then I see a giant foot
I think I am so small.

We had a sticky technology challenge today. We had to bulid a tower out of marshmallows and spaghetti. To win you had to build the tallest tower. Our families came to school to help us.
